Vacating a property can be stressful but the key is to be organised!
As soon as you decide to move on you need to contact your property manager to ensure the correct notice is provided.
Things to consider when vacating a property:
- Arrange a removalist – it’s good to get referrals or check reviews
- Organise disconnection of electricity and telephone, as well as connection at your new property
- Update your insurance details
- Update your mailing address and organise mail redirection
- Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning! Mowing and general tidying of the property
- Arranging carpet cleaning and pest control if required
- Make sure your rent is paid up until your vacate date – you might need to check the final amount with your property manager
- Cancel your rent direct debit payments to avoid overpayment
These are some of the things you need to prepare when planning to vacate your rental property. Then comes the question: Will I get all of my bond back?
The vacate process can be easily guided by your property manager, who can explain the process and give you tips to make sure you get your bond back. They can even help you choose cleaning contractors, carpet cleaners etc to ensure they are reliably carried out.
Once all the hard work is done you will need to arrange for the keys to be returned, and the vacate inspection to be carried out by the property manager. Once they have completed the final inspection and compared the property with the original entry condition report they will let you know if anything needs to be attended to. This could be cleanliness, repair of damage, lawns and gardens, missing items from inventory etc. Fair wear and tear of the property is taken in consideration also. Ideally you will leave the property in the same condition as when you moved in.
